Blank Canvas: A Benefit to Celebrate the New Bruce

Congratulations to Blank Canvas Co-Chairs and Bruce Contemporaries, Katie Fong Biglin and Erin Glasebrook, on hosting this special sneak peek of the Museum’s dramatic transformation! Many Bruce Contemporaries joined and had the chance to experience the new space and meet special guest Hunt Slonem, who generously donated one of his works for the auction. Art of Collecting Jewelry at the Serpentine Townhouse

Jeweler Ali Galgano of Serpentine Jewels and People Style and Beauty Director Andrea Lavinthal recently joined forces to host The Bruce Contemporaries at the newly opened Serpentine Townhouse in Downtown Greenwich for an evening of cocktails and conversation.

Coming at it from two different angles, Ali offered insight about how to identify and recognize diamond quality and what ultimately determines the value of a stone. Andrea shared her knowledge of the jewelry world through writing and marketing and talked about various trends and styles in the industry.

The evening at the Serpentine Townhouse left us all with a deep appreciation for the inherent art in the world of jewelry.

Athena Books Event

On Tuesday, December 13, the Bruce Contemporaries held a holiday gathering centering on art and books at Athena Books in Old Greenwich. Philip Ruppel, COO of Phaidon Press, Ltd, sat in conversation with Dr. Caitlin Davis, founder and CEO of art advisory Warfield Eliot. Over light bites and libations, Mr. Ruppel and Dr. Davis spoke about the development of art and ‘coffee table’ books, how great artists’ works both past and present are channeled onto a page, and the challenges and triumphs of working in tandem with emerging artists. Guests and Contemporaries members took part in a Q&A about the intersection of art and books, and afterward mingled among the well-stocked and holiday-ready shelves, where 10% of the night’s book sales were donated to the Bruce Museum.

The Barn @ Downing Yudain

Water was the theme of the beautiful and serene exhibition that the Bruce Contemporaries had the chance to visit at The Barn @ Downing Yudain LLC on November 17. Featuring the works of artists Frances Ashforth and Susan Williams, the exhibition included a variety of paintings and monotypes. The Bruce Contemporaries were lucky enough to get the chance to meet Frances Ashforth and enjoy a fascinating conversation with Frances and gallery owner Lily Downing. They discussed Ashforth’s distinctive style and process – from how she created her monotypes on paper to her paintings which have shifted from being painted on panels to a relatively new type of paper created from recycled plastic called Yupo. The works in the show by both artists are oil on Yupo. Susan Williams is from Maine and California and Frances is local, living in Ridgefield.

The Barn @ Downing Yudain is a public exhibition space which generally hosts an array of living artists. Many of the exhibitions are inspired by helping our earth and climate.
